Designing with Simplicity: How the Basic Tier Cookie Package Works

In this blog posts series I'm attempting to explain how each price tier is determined. Hopefully, this blog post will shed some light on the process and make choosing the right price point easier for you as the consumer.

If you’re new to custom cookie ordering, the different tiers might feel a little confusing at first. That’s why I want to break down what my Tier 1 – Basic Design Package looks like, so you’ll know exactly what to expect when placing your order.

The basic tier is perfect for simple, classic designs that are both beautiful and budget-friendly. Here’s what’s a basic tier cookie design MAY look like:

This could be you at your next event. LOL!

Shapes: You’ll get 1–3 different cookie cutter shapes per dozen. This keeps the design simple while still giving you a little variety. Choose your designs wisely to ensure they make the most impact. Please keep in mind that you can also choose a basic traditional shape such as rectangle, circle, or square to convey the design you’d like.

Colors: Up to 3 colors are included (not counting the background color), which is plenty for a clean, eye-catching design without being too busy. Please keep in mind that colors such as red, black, and navy blue are rich, deeply pigmented and difficult to achieve. They can also come off as bitter if the cookie contains too much of either color, not to mention your guests will leave with red or black teeth. Not a good look! Consider using these colors sparingly.

Size: Cookies will be between 3–4 inches, the perfect handheld size for serving at events or gifting. Four inch cookies are actually pretty sizeable and can be easily shared.

Design Style: This tier focuses on simple elegance. Designs may feature basic piped writing (like names, initials, or short messages) and even soft touches of watercoloring (faint painting), simple florals, and writing for added flair. You can also add texture such as simple folds or dimples in the icing to make the simple design stand out.

Visual Example: Imagine a dozen cookies where half are simple circles with soft watercolor backgrounds in pastel blue and pink, accented with piped initials. The rest might be heart or star shapes decorated with clean white outlines or a single word like “Love” or “Congrats.” It’s a look that’s clean, modern, and perfect for any casual celebration.

Design Tip: You can absolutely create a holiday-themed cookie set with the basic tiered design package! The key is choosing three colors that capture the spirit of the holiday. For Christmas, classic red, white, and green instantly set the tone. For Halloween, think black, orange, and a pop of neon green. With just these colors, you can design a festive set that feels seasonal and fun. Add a short quote, simple piped details, or a wet-on-wet technique, and you’ll have an eye-catching holiday set without breaking the bank

The Basic Design Package gives you just the right mix of customization and simplicity, proof that choosing the basic tier doesn’t mean your designs have to be basic.

Here are a few examples of what would be categorized in the basic tiered price point.
